Botox® Cosmetic Injections

Botox® Cosmetic is a non-surgical injectable treatment that helps to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. This simple injection can be administered in Dr. Kontis in her Baltimore office in order to create a more youthful appearance with natural results.

Botox is not limited to the treatment of expression lines as it can also be used to treat migraines headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms around the neck and eye areas. Botox is also effective in reducing the appearance of a 'gummy smile'.

FDA-approved, Botox is made from the botulinum toxin. Once injected beneath the skin, it helps to immobilize the muscles that have created wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful look. Botox is commonly used to diminish crow's feet and furrowed forehead lines.

Healthy individuals who want to temporarily improve the appearance of certain wrinkles, including crow's feet and forehead furrows, may benefit from this injectable treatment. Individuals who are suffering from certain neuromuscular disorders may be at an increased risk for some side effects. A patient consultation with Dr. Kontis is the best way to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.  Dr. Kontis has extensive training in cosmetic injectables, who is nationally recognized for her expertise and is a member of the Allergan National Education Faculty.

Botox Treatment

Botox can be administered in Dr. Kontis' office with a treatment time of approximately 10 minutes. Dr. Kontis will examine the movement of certain muscle areas in order to determine the best locations for the Botox injections. Anesthesia is not required for Botox treatment, though the sight of injection may be numbed with a topical anesthetic or cold pack. There is little to no recovery period after a Botox injection and regular daily activities can be resumed immediately afterward. The results of Botox will begin to take effect between 5 to 14 days after the procedure. There may be some temporary swelling or tenderness around the injection site, along with minor bruising, bleeding, or redness.

The youthful results of Botox can last up to 4 months with little to no side effects.
