Facial Implants

Facial implants are often used to add prominence to certain facial features in order to improve facial balance and proportion. Facial implants can be used to enhance the cheekbones, jaw, or chin. This procedure can be combined with other surgeries like rhinoplasty or a facelift to fully enhance the face. A check implant can create higher cheekbones while a chin implant can result in a more prominent chin.

Healthy individuals who want to enhance or add prominence to the facial features or create better facial balance may be good candidates for facial implants. A consultation with Dr. Kontis is the best way to determine if facial implants are right for you.

Facial implant procedures generally take between thirty minutes and an hour to complete. They are usually performed with a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. In some cases, general anesthesia may be used instead. Incisions may be located in the mouth or under the chin within a natural skin crease. The implant is then inserted through the incision and placed at the chin or jaw or overlaying the cheek bones.

After a facial implant procedure, there may be some swelling and bruising. Any discomfort that occurs can be controlled with prescribed medication. There may also be some dietary restrictions if the incisions are made inside of the mouth. Some difficulty with speaking and smiling is normal after surgery. Work and other regular activity may be resumed one week after surgery, though strenuous activities and those which involve contact with the face should be avoided for two months.

Facial implants can enhance and accentuate the facial features, creating a remarkable appearance to the face.
